Rose of Allendale The moon was bright, the night was clear /밤은 고요하고, 달은 밝고 No breeze came over the sea / 바다는 작은 피도로일렁이며 When Mary left her highland home /나는 메리와 하이랜드 고원을 And wandered forth with me / 이리저리 돌아다니다 놀았다 The flowers be-decked the mountainside /산중턱에는 꽃으로 꾸며져있고 And fragrance filled the vale /그향기는 계곡에 가득합니다 But by far the sweetest flower there /하지만 지금까지 가장 사랑스런 꽃은 Was the Rose of Allendale /알렌데일의 장미입니다 ＊Oh the Rose of Allendale /오!! 알렌 데일의 장미여 Sweet Rose of Allendale / 사랑스런 알렌데일의 장미여 By far the sweetest flower there /사랑스런 꽃은 거기에있었네 Was the Rose of Allendale /나의 사랑 알렌데일의 장미여 Where e'er I wandered east or west Though fate began to lour A solace still was she to me In sorrow's lonely hour When tempests lashed our lonely barque tempests And rent her quivering sail One maiden's form withstood the storm 'Twas the Rose of Allendale ' And when my fever'd lips were parched On Afric's burning sands She whispered hopes of happiness And tales of distant lands My life has been a wilderness Unblessed by fortune's wheel Had fate not linked my love to hers The Rose of Allendale ㅡ Mary Black ㅡ 어느소녀인지는 모르지만 알렌데일에사는 소녀를그리며 부르는 사랑의 찬가같네요 얼마나 아름다우면 소녀를 알렌데일의 장미로 표현했을까요 .. 동서고금을 막론하고 사랑이란 달콤하고 좋은것임에는 틀림이없나봅니다 ^^** 이곡은 1840 년대 Charles Jeffreys 의 멋진가사에 곡을붙인것인데 수많은 가수들이 불렀는데 지금 부르는 메리블랙을 비롯해 Paddy Reilly ,Sean O'Neill 같은가수들에 의해 불려졌는데 시리도록 아련한 메리블랙의 음성으로들으니 더애절하고 사랑의 감정도 배가되는것같습니다 또 이곡은 많은분들이 아일랜드 민요로 알고있는데 제목에도 잇듯이 " Allendale "은 영국에있는 도시입니다 좀더정확하게 하자면 노섬벌랜드 (Northumberland)주에속한도시이고 잉글랜드 북동부에 위치한 이곳은 스코틀랜드와 경계를이루는 지역으로 그래서 그런지 성이 많다고합니다 아마도 치열했던 전쟁을 말하는것이겟지요, 그리고 가사중에 "highland "가나오는데 highland는 스코틀랜드지방의 높은지대나 산악지역을나타낸다고합니다 그러니까 이곡은 아일랜드하고는 별반 상관이없겟죠 다만 곡의흐름이나 느낌이 그럴것같아서 또 그쪽지방 민요니까 아마도 어느분이 유추해석해서 그럴것이다 하는건 아닌지요 ,, 까마귀와까치는 분명다른데 갈대와억새도 마찬가지고 ^^** Northumberland 의 성 하이랜드 지방의 댄스 ＊The Corries ＊ 감사합니다 - 자추 -
